Varan is a hefty man with milky white skin. His hair, bound back in a pony-tail, is a rusty brown colour. He keeps his facial hair trimmed when he has a chance, though is usually decked in stubble. Varan tends to wear heavy clothing, parts of which are bound in resin obviously created by xenodragons. His expressions are hard to read; Varan seems impassive most of the time.

While he is impassive, for the most part, Varan is a proficient student of human nature. He works as a scout, for the most part, and as a recruiter for any humanoids of the beleaguered Hive of the Arx. Before he and Joysnis made the move to Arx Infusco, they resided within the pits of the Bower, and Varan often had to struggle to survive, huge snake-like bond or no. He rarely interacts with other humans, mostly because he distrusts them intrinsically. He does occasionally make forays into the Stockyard, but only to satiate his more primal urges. Most of the time, Varan resides with his bond or within the Hive, rarely seeing the light of day.

Joysnis is not a docile creature. Shi is an intelligent predator, and knows to look beyond the surface for trends in prey and even in the seasons and lifecycles of those around hir. Joysnis is keen on ensuring that the scorched valley receives enough food to feed hir kith and kin, and more recently, her Hivemates, as well as any other blood-thirsty visitors who may wish to live there. Moreover, shi is an economical trader and is willing to deal with creatures outside of her family network. Joysnis, whilst living at the Bower, had become the head of trade between the red and white clans. The same can mostly be said within the Arx, as Joysnis is easily able to manage the trade of xenomorphic goods (resinous armor, items, and reinforcement) for other goods including as much as arrangements for human hosts, should any of her Hivemates reproduce in the traditional xenomorphic manner.
