Magpie has always been a prankster intent on causing her targets mild discomfort. Some days she has better moods than others; when she is feeling cheerful, her shenanigans are generally harmless, but when she's feeling in a rotten mood, her pranks can get downright nasty. She started her "career," as it were, in the Nexus by showing up to Mullen when the human had fallen ill, and for some time thereafter would nag him and trip him and tease him whenever nobody else was around. Then, one day, Magpie vanished, much to Mullen's relief.
Though she won't tell anyone where she vanished too, the truth is that Magpie returned to Nexistence in order to explore her roots. She spent a good deal of time with her perceived creator, Agate, trying to one-up the AI with diabolical schemes, and has probably come out the worse for it. Now that she's returned to Avengaea, there is a marked difference about her tricks and taunts: she has become more dry and cutting with her remarks, and some of her pranks do more than leave scuffs and bruises.
The truth of the matter is that Magpie has begun to feel as though her life is stagnating, or going around in circles. She is the kind of creature that likes to plot and scheme, however, so while she won't reveal her machinations to Mullen (to whom she's returned), it's likely that bonding an Asandus has more to do with advancing herself than it does to make a real friend.
